Publication protocol

Baseline blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine, cystatin C, kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1), and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) levels were measured 7 days before IRI surgery. Colorimetric kits were used to measure BUN, serum creatinine, and cystatin C levels (BUN: Fujifilm, Bedford, UK; creatinine: Arbor Assays, Ann Arbor, MI; cystatin C: R&D Systems, Minneapolis, MN). Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits (KIM-1: R&D Systems; NGAL: Immunology Consultants Laboratory, Portland, OR) were used to measure KIM-1 and NGAL. These five functional markers were measured in serum samples obtained on day 0 (baseline), day 1, and day 2 after bilateral renal IRI according to the manufacturers' recommended methods.
