The E.Z.N.A. plasmid miniprep kit (Omega-Bio-Tek, Inc.) was used according to the manufacturer's instructions. The strains were grown in Luria-Bertani medium (5 g/liter yeast extract [catalog no. 212750; BD Becton, NJ], 10 g/liter tryptone [catalog no. 211705; BD, NJ], 10 g/liter NaCl) for 22 h (optical density at 600 nm, 1.3 to 2.0). The isolated plasmid DNA was supplemented with GelRed and separated in a 1% agarose gel by electrophoresis.
