The native plasmids were obtained from a representative S. sonnei strain using E.Z.N.A. plasmid DNA mini kit II (OMEGA Bio-Tek) or by alkaline extraction, separated in a 1% agarose gel electrophoresis, and visualized with ethidium bromide.
